Join our choir

Birmingham Festival Choral Society always welcomes new singers! We hold an Open Rehearsal on the first Wednesday of each term, but you are welcome to come along any week. We are particularly looking forward to welcoming new singers on Wednesday 13th September. Come at 7pm to give us time to welcome you and introduce you to someone singing the same voice part.

Rehearsals take place every Wednesday during term time at Selly Oak Methodist Church, Langleys Rd, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6HT. Click here for map.

We meet from 7.15 to 9.30pm, with a 15 minute break for refreshments. Our inspirational Music Director, David Wynne, provides advice on singing technique throughout, and choir members are encouraged to ask if they would like parts repeated or explained more fully. Rehearsals are now live-streamed on zoom, for those who are unable to join in person, and recorded to help singers with their practice between rehearsals. Rehearsal tracks are also available on the website for practice at home.

Let our singers tell you in this video why they love Birmingham Festival Choral Society…

We aim for a high standard of singing within a friendly environment. To see and hear the choir in rehearsal, click on any of the three videos at the bottom of this page. You can also hear BFCS choir recordings on our YouTube channel.

To find out more about what we do, click to read about our recent concert in Pershore Abbey, and our tour to the Rhineland of Germany in spring 2023.

We have an Equal Opportunities officer who is happy to help as required.

Why not come along?

Come for a couple of rehearsals to try us. If you decide that you would like to join, a friendly Voice Test will then be arranged. Subs are only payable after this, once you have officially joined.

Subscriptions (2023  – 2024 season): Waged singers: £13 per month (£156 per annum), Unwaged singers: £11 per month (£132 per annum). Easy payment schemes are available, and the fees are reduced by 5% if paid by the end of September. The subs cover the cost of our MD, accompanist and venue hire, and also subsidise the more expensive concerts in prestigious venues with orchestras.
