An invitation
As chairman of BFCS, I am writing to young singers, and also their teachers. Our choir is keen to publicise a new choral scholarship scheme which we are starting this year. We are inviting applications from talented singers of all voice parts. We are offering two scholarships, worth £1,000 each, to anyone aged between 18 and 30. Each scholarship will be for one whole season, beginning on 1 September 2026.
What we expect from scholars:
- regular commitment at our Wednesday evening rehearsals in Selly Oak*
- full attendance at all four of our concerts
- aiding and leading vocal sections in rehearsals and performances
- helping to publicise concerts.
What a scholar will expect from us: - opportunities to develop your repertoire
- working closely with our music director and accompanist
- opportunities to assist in the vocal development of our choir
- occasional solo opportunities
Application details:
- a short CV and a video recording of a song / aria of your choice
- your contact details (email and phone)
- to be sent to chair@bfcs.org.uk by Friday 15 May 2026
- interviews (by Zoom) expected to be on Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 June 2026
- For further information send an email message to chair@bfcs.org.uk. David Fletcher.
*Rehearsals take place every Wednesday during term time at Selly Oak Methodist Church, Langleys Rd, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6HT.
