
David has been the Music Director of Birmingham Festival Choral Society since 2017. During that time he has directed a wide range of music from Baroque works such as Johannes Passion by J S Bach through to larger-scale twentieth-century choral works such as Carmina Burana by Carl Orff and jazz works by George Shearing and Will Todd. David is also the Music Director of the Coventry Philharmonic Choir.
David holds a masters’ degree in Vocal and Operatic performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and now works as choral director of the Senior Chorus and the Vocal Ensemble of the Royal Birmingham Junior Conservatoire. He is head of choral conducting, teaches singing and musicianship, and is also vocal coordinator for the department. He is also a vocal tutor at King Edwards VI Five Ways Grammar School and Eversfield Preparatory School.
Work as a freelance baritone soloist has included holding lay clerk positions at St. Chad’s Cathedral Birmingham and St Anne’s Cathedral Leeds, and performing several times as a musician of the Royal Shakespeare Company. David has worked with some of the country’s leading music education organisations, including Opera North, Welsh National Opera, the Armonico Consort and the education departments in the cathedrals at Leicester and Leeds.
His work takes him all around the country, but David’s home is now Alnmouth, Northumberland, where his young family is based.
